it's still a niche item, the buff doesn't justify any clear pickups. If you want to control a creep for any reason, go for it.

if you want to farm faster, just get midas.
if you're forced to jungle, just get a morbid mask.
if you want to push and clear waves faster, just get mael or bfury.
i can't think of one scenario where I say "oh yea HOTD is clearly better"
no one bought it in TI. no one. highly doubtful a minor attack speed buff would change that.
Lil bought it a couple of times. It's only good if you can really make use of the creep for scouting, cutting creep waves etc
Saying HOTD is useful is like saying shitting standing up is a good idea when you have hemorrhoids.
Actually people dont use hotd that well even in pro games.

He literally secrued them the game, thats how u use Hotd to the full effect. You use the active on the neutral creep like centaur for the full effect. The 450 ms on the dominated creeps is overpowered in the right hands and Lil showed that.

99% of normal skill advices
^ Thats why looking for some very very high skill advice. Its even great on snowballing heros like bs pugna get a creep with a great passive like the tomato or the dmg aura wolfy and even secure HG pushes safely.
It still needs to be used mre effectively even in pro games, maybe they get these ideas after reading my thread!
Pugna hotd sounds beyond atrocious
There is nothing from that item that pugna wants
No mana
No cast range
No armor
No defensive tool
Pugna has no problem pushing and he doesn't need an item to help him
Imagine a support with offlaner/support with the hellbear smasher and Hotd while pushing.
Now that is +15 AS from the Hotd and +15 from the hellbear. Now if someone else has a drums and activates it you get +25 AS.
So thats (15+15+25) +55 AS for a carry liek jugg with whom the team can push pretty early with a healing ward. Now if this is used to secure a T2 And then a T3 rather early in the mid game , thats more than worth it.
Compare this to a late game item like AC which gives just +25 AS aura and even if the carry has it he gets the same AS (55) as above but it has to farm a ton for it which is not likely to be bought early mid game as well.
What I'm saying is very rarely do we see the actives and passives of the neutral being dominated used to the full effect in general gameplay including pro matches.
PS - the dominated creep is far superior than a creep from Chen or Enchantress mainly because of the high movement speed while its dominated and increased hp of it as well.

INsanely useful in a push lineup scenario. The tomato bear and big satry are ridiculously useful in a summon heavy lineup
I imagine a support could buy it in a team with Tinker, but besides that, whatever the dominated creeps provided or the stats the item itself provides is not enough. Too expensive and nerfed.
I could see it on a position 4 Slardar maybe? Get the centaur, run it with the huge move speed to stun setup for your own stun and have an early 16 health regen at lvl 10 with your talent. Maybe.
I bought it recently, but I'm terrible at micro so I just grabbed an enemy siege creep to help push. I feel like HotD is like drums right now, a cheap stat item that helps your team push a little better. It's not worth it for a core to waste a slot on, and a lot of the times it's better for supports to go for a more useful utility item like force or glimmer, but it can be alright if you're ahead and just want to push early. You really need to micro well though, otherwise you're better off getting Vlad's instead.
A while back, before the stats nerf, I used to get HotD on jug and get the big Satyr with the regen aura and just push 24/7 with the team. Ez 25 min wins.
