What do you think theyll do? Isnt having a lower prize pool than the year before bad marketing?

impressive, they have 20M 7 weeks before the battlepass ends and it is considered bad marketing

how much wouldn't be considered bad marketing in your opinion?

      SASA POPOVIC

Dota is not really investing anything in marketing so i dont think they care, it brings them tons of money anyway since only a fraction of income goes to prize pool. Also Valve is not just dota, put yourself in their shoes, you have whole Steam plus IPs like CSgo and Dota 2, do you really care if some of those goes 1-2 milions short? Do you stress in life when you loose a nickel?

        Dark Hunter

(actually valve owns steam, so they get money from every game on there)

          Kotato

valve = capitalism! by playing dota and making it retarded you fight the capitalism, rise and shine working class

            in and out

yes they can boost it by changing previous immortals to color green that is how ''good'' they are

              SASA POPOVIC

^minimal investments for maximum profit, ez! At this point they dont give a shit since its 8th TI and they know people gonna buy hats anyway.

                Kruelty-

what Im saying is that if TI8 Prize pool is lower than that of ti7, wouldnt players look at that as evidence that dota is dying? Jst my thought.
And yeah the new bundle is fucking trash, cant believe how simplistic and easy it was.

I think this is Peak Pro Dota. Fortnite is the future of esports for the next few years. Ninja gets more viewers every evening than most Dota Major games.

Fortnite as a tournament is unwatchable.. Fortnite will always be a single streamer thing i guess.

                        Sand1

plus valve will make the prizepool >TI7 anyway possible. They might release another tresure or something..

Bring back jungle and Iron Talon

                            Rocket

@Ajay it is unwatchable from the player point of view but an eye in the sky camera and make it 20 or so players rather than 100 and you could make a decent esports from it. didn't epic put down $100m for tournament prize pools this year?

As fort he TI prize pool, Valve will make sure it carries on growing if it is close to the previous tournament. Don't forget they are pocketing 80% of BP proceeds so they can chuck and extra couple of million in if needed to make it the 'BIGGEST ESPORTS EVENT IN HISTORY!'....

I feel like most people who wrote here have no idea how any business works. Yes, they care. Cause there's a team of people who are working for Valve, trying to make sufficient to buy a house, pay for their kids school, etc. Those folks have KPIs that they have to hit.

Valve has a bunch of product owners/product managers, who only care about this metric. They've introduced a ton of stuff this year for TI. Most is outdated, but you can see those folks are not randomly adding features. They do it based on feedback from people, blainstorming sessions, etc.

Yes, green thingy sucks. But do you have a much better idea? Releasing a new hero obviously doesn't actually improves MAU. Releasing regular patches doesnt as well. Regular events, etc. None of this helps if people are getting older and play less, and new folks are playing something else. You can see by a ton of stuff they did since 7.0 patch that Valve is trying hard to stop leakage of players. It doesn't help, cause the game is getting old. But you can see that there's probably a different team working on the game now compared with 2 years ago. People lost their job (left or were fired). And now someone else is trying to hit their KPIs

I'm sure there's some VPs and Execs right now meeting and discussing whether Dota III makes sense, or them launching something completely different makes more sense.

Because MAU is decreasing. People are losing jobs. People are not getting their bonuses. A ton of people are mad in Valve right now. Do they care about it? Sure. Its their Christmas bonuses, future houses, future exit options that are at stake here. Not sure why you guys talk about other projects of the company. Do you care whether you'll get a bonus this year?

^^^Fake news...revenues from Dota are at least on a par with last year. No-one at Valve is mad right now and people haven't been fired for a failing game.

Unlike you, those people know how a business works and understand what a product lifecyle is.

                                  Nemesis

I think both of you guys above are a little bit correct. Revenue overall might be around the same year over year... but you need to look at average spending per customer(player). If total number of players is flat lined which it appears to be... that means dota 2 is making more per customer.

That is bad long term especially if total customers begins to decrease. Then you have to essentially “raise prices” to generate same revenue. Which eventually leads to capping out because there will always be some limit on what people are willing or can afford to spend. Valves current problem is not revenue but that it is not expanding its market in terms of customers. If they cannot find a realistic way to make the game more kid/casual gamer friendly the game will do as all games before it and eventually die.

I would say they have maybe 2-3 more years realistically unless they do a massive overhaul of the game. And I mean 2-3 more years before revenue begins to decrease. It will probably never decrease to the point where valve scraps the game. But it won’t be one of their bread and butter games. IMO...

                                    Blackheart

Well sooner or later dota will be dead even now u can see many ppl start quitting the games.... and to be honest its all start when valve limit mmr 3.5k for calibration

                                      Potato PC

If they really care about TI8's price pool, they could use their own money and claim it's from battle pass.

                                        SASA POPOVIC

^they could but they dont care, they have insane amount of money and if this year dota pros gonna be short for a couple of milions, Valve wont care, dota pros wont care either because its still insane prize pool compared to everything else, so everyone is happy. You need to do some reasearch about Valve guys, its not just dota.

                                          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYE5cxQrIp8

"Oh no Dota 2 will die" Valve will just shut down that department fire dota devs and continue making ridicouls money via steam selling other peoples games, yeah they are ruined LOL!

The prize pool itself is still amazing, but the fact that its lower than TI7's (by the millions) kinda hints at something bad, proving doubters that Dota is slowly fading, thats all im saying.

                                                Kotato

last year prize was too ridiculous, it should not be more than 10 mil dollars. Dota2 is about the quality fan-gay-base not quantitiy. Let the feeders and toxic players leave this game
