True,there is not carry items,btw,you can't play Veno in hard carry way,in best case you can play some semi carry way but simple,it's not it...
Treads,Aquila,Shadow Blade,Scepter,Manta is the best items for semi carry way but is still not enough to deal with real carries,if you want to play support then go on mana boots,mek and pipe,force stuff or sb is must buy items because you dont have escape/initiate mechanism.
Btw,you must max wards first,that is the key,playing in mid or side lines,after picking gale and sting wards are the key for pushing and defending lines,after initiation with ulti,pushing and defending lines are your primary rolles.
I like to play Veno,build depends on other teammates roles and flow of the game ofc,but he is great hero,support or not.On pro level right now he is the first three pick/ban heroes just because of spaming wards and ulti initiation.

What i want to say,maximize on level 4 Wards after picking one Gale and one Sting,that is the way of playing on pro levels after 6.79 patch who changed: Wards now have Poison Sting. Poison Sting for 50% of the damage at the current skilled level (When both Venomancer and a Plague Ward affect a target, only the highest dps is applied).
This is just advice my friend,you can play your or someone else way ofc.
veno needs tons of gold to carry. At least sb, sceptor and deadalus. Possibly a butterfly and bkb/linken at late game. He doesnt farm or harass as his dota 1 counterpart as he used to be.
I'd much rather get something like Necro 3 than Manta on Veno. He doesn't have any steroids, building him like a carry is just like building carry Rubick.
You built everything wrong. Carry veno is like this:
Max sting, then gale for maximum damages! No wards til both are maxed.
Items: treads or phase, shadowblade is optional, manta is core, mkb against evasion, bfly is core, satanic is great especially combined with skadi.
It really depends...if you want to mid you max sting and wards with level 1-2 of gale. You can just sit back and farm dolla.

Skadi is a buff placer so in turn doesn't work on veno. At least didn't work in wc3(it was overriding the built-in passive). Not sure about dota 2 though, just the same way as skadi+lifesteal worked on melee heroes in d2 while it shouldn't have.

pretty sure games ends before you can make manta. I'd say sceptor or bkb for this mid-game fights. Skadi does stack with his orb attack. It does'nt stack with oov tho.

This is a veno who came mid and would made me lose it for sure if i didn't have bloodseeker to regen from lasthits while bringing pots with cour at the same time. I was amazed, his cobras were a pain in the ass and of course he destroyed my tower first without me scratching his own even a bit. I imagine a carry veno mid for fast levels with a push strategy (brood, furion, lycan, venge for example) would be deadly.
veno can carry only if very fed.
if you start a game with the mind that veno is the carry, then its a gg for u.
I remember in MLG 2013 Columbus final DK vs SPG.int.Game 3. Mushi tried to play semi carry veno (mid) and failed hard.
I agree with Wink that Manta is a key for a DPS carry ish veno. the sting got full dmg on illusions.
SnY actually great on venom because of great MS, OP slow combined with guile. Solo kill anyone.

tried veno mid and try to carry the game ... .guess what mid-game is total annihilation TT.TT from now on ill play veno as pure OP support , cour and ward... though in this game i warded everywhere and brought some dust for PL still messed up
