How does early abandon really work? in General Discussion

Exactly what it says. Why are some matches recorded and others are not?
Case 1: X dc/ed after picks were made, first blood before 5 minutes in and "safe to leave no stats recorded" at about 5 minutes. Not recorded on dotabuff.

Case 2: everyone from one team dc/ed before 5 minutes,no first blood. Recorded as loss on dota buff.

Case 3: Someone left after a few minutes in, no first blood before safe to leave and teams continued to play till the end. Not recorded

Case 4: Early abandonment due to inactivity. Person starts playing at about min 7. Recorded.

I am very confused. And the worst thing about it? Quite all of the matches my team wins due to early abandonment are not recorded on dota buff. But when the same thing happens to us it adds the score. Wtf? What do you need to do to prevent matches lost this way from showing?

    Hacknuts

case 1: it counts. in unraked it says no stats recorded but its BS. in ranked it shouldnt say that
case 2: it shouldnt show on dotabuff, thats a bug.

case 3: shouldnt count cuz abandond before first blood
case 4: recorded properly if abandonment happened after first blood

DC without picking or before first blood= no mmr change no loss. in ranked if it says "no update to mmr" then it wont count. "safe to leave' means nothing in terms of it counting or not. in unranked it is querky in what it says so be careful

I really feel the all round fairest thing they could do if there is an abandon is give the quitter a loss, unrecorded for his teammates and a win for the other team . I don't know if Valve provide the info to make that possible.

Yes that will give some people an undeserved win but at least some players wont get the undeserved loss.

Early Abandonment - If a person is NOT-IN-PLAY* (See NOT-IN-PLAY) after 5-minutes into the game. Unless a first blood is taken before 5-minutes, after which any person caught NOT-IN-PLAY* first gets an abandonment.

          *NOT-IN-PLAY condition:
          1) Disconnected from ping return to server "Warning your client is disconnected" (Note: closing the client will bypass ping return to server and cause ping timeout to start)
          2) Ping Timeout - For any network/client reasons the ping does not return. "Reconnect" is offered upon the first successful ping to the Dota 2 game servers. (Note: Profile server must be cleared first for valid session before allowed to game servers. Not having a valid session will result in 'Client is out of date' or 'Connecting to Dota 2 Server' error)
          3) Game Server registers timeout and starts 5-minute countdown, which will hold for a public agreed upon pause
          4) In-game countdown after each hit, gold earned, gold lost, may also trip and cause instant NOT-IN-PLAY with no additional countdown (AFK condition)

If the entire party (assuming a stacked team) disconnects, then the team special rule is used.

          Team Special Rule:
          1) If the entire team disconnects, 30-seconds countdown is started (rage quit condition)
          2) At the end of the 30-seconds countdown, if no player on the enemy team is back, then a win is automatically awarded to the side still in play and the losing side's ancient is instantly destroyed
          3) If anybody from the disconnected side reconnects, then normal NOT-IN-PLAY rules are checked (but the disconnected side having a pause option disadvantage). The first person on the server registered as gone will eat +1 to early abandonment count, while everyone else in the party that is gone eat +1 to party abandonment count (no consequence at present)
          4) Once the ancient is destroyed for the disconnected team, a loss is counted even if it is before 5-minutes.
          5) If the game is decided loss or win occurs before the NOT-IN-PLAY trigger happens, no abandonment is given to anyone regardless of their connection state (This is very important - If one of you disconnect, your whole party can disconnect so that your throne can blow up after 30 sec. This will give you a loss, but no abandonment.)
