Could the MMR system give falsely high rating? in General Discussion

    Hey forum.

So i assume that you 've never come across this question before. To help you understand what i mean above, i will try to describe what led me to ask myself the question in the first place.

So i started off with a solid 4370 solo and 4250 party mmr by the time the calibration was done. I wasn't too fond of party matchmaking cause my friends had a generally lower mmr than i did so i felt better playing solo. For a time (3-4 weeks), i found myself stuck between around 4400 and 4500 solo mmr. It was a long +-1 win period and led me to the conclusion that this was my skill bracket and that i would be staying at that rating until i get better.

After a month though, i underwent sudden win streaks of 9 and even 12 games that quickly rocketed me to 4600-4700+ mmr. And after some more +-1 ping pong (which suprisingly also lasted a month or so), i am now at 5000 mmr (solo).

Now as we all now, or at least as i want to believe, a difference of 600mmr is a big deal. And it gets even bigger the higher the rating you compare. So where i am getting at is - did i actually undergo a steady rise of capability in these 3 months? Was i falsely placed at 4300 mmr to begin with because of coincendental matches? I just feel that my playstyle hasn't changed since these 3 months ago. I could be wrong though.

Any insight i would highly appreciate!

You clearly win more without your noob friends to drag you down. Case solved.

the system tries to guess the best place to put you, the more ranked matches you play the closer you will get to your true MM. Since I throw alot and messed around with alot of lower MM friends I calibrated at like 3.2k MM after playing more I am around 4.1k now

I just bought 2 DRs and fed it to the other team to end the game in which my team refused to grow a pair and push

I was stuck at the 3.0-3.3k mmr bracket for like a good 6 months. Finally going to 3.5k. What I realize is that some players at 3.3k are actually 1.5-2x better than the 3.5k bracket. So I guess if you lucky and have mic or chat. You have a higher chance to just go up wins. I'm just assumming most people who ping/pong aren't really in that skill bracket or bad luck etc... but honestly it seems easier to get up higher and higher once ur on a win streak.

people tend to get a horrible attitude when they lose a match and they bring it over to their next games causing more losses

does it count if i have a legitimate thrower in consecutive games :/

also has anyone played with a guy named, "ilovedie"

i think he's a troll... but he says he's peruvian, and he typed this, "i think visage good is buy the mekans" (too good to be true)
